Mr. Buffett is an independent senior expert specialising in statistical systems and processes and the SDMx standard. Before becoming a consultant, he worked in national and international statistics agencies for over 30 years. During that time he has been responsible for implementing statistics production processes throughout the full data lifecycle as well as data production systems and databases. He has been working with SDMx since 2006, starting with the data exchange framework for the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Brian now consults for a select group of official statistics organisations including MODS, the OECD, the Asian Development Bank, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and ESCAP. As an external expert for the BIS, he manages the sdmx.io initiative, conducted the IFC survey on SDMx adoption in Central Banks, produced many e-learning courses, led numerous capacity-building seminars, and oversees the implementation of the SDMx AI Assistant (chatbot).
